The Sun

The sun.  How does it affect our skin and cause aging?

UV exposure

UV Exposure may result in:

  • Lines/wrinkles (may start mid 30's or earlier)
  • Loss of tone (Sagging)
  • Discolouration (dark spots, uneven tone)
  • General surface and deep tissue damage
  • Skin sensitivity
  • Skin thickening
  • Sunburn
  • Skin cancer
  • The sun's damage is cumulative and it cannot be reversed with skincare products.

  • Wearing reliable sun protection every single day of your life can truly prevent wrinkles and photo aging.

  • All skins are affected negatively by unprotected sun exposure.

Some myths to consider:

  • that it is a good idea to get a 'healthy' base tan before vacation

  • sun damage only occurs on sunny days

  • only fair skinned people need to practice 'safe sun'

  • sunscreen inhibits vitamin D absorption in the skin
